Effective PPC Tactic Revealed (Part 2)

March 9, 2008 – 10:38 pm

Hey readers!

I’ve gotten a few e-mails, a comment, and a few PM’s on digitalpoint regarding my last post! I want to thank you very much for your guys’ insight and this wouldn’t be possible without that! With that said, I’m further reiterating that I LOVE FEEDBACK! And without further ado, here’s Effective PPC Tactic Revealed (Part 2).

Promoting the Right Merchant

I’m telling you now…if you’re not promoting the right merchant then you’re heading in a complete DEAD END zone. I mean say you’re promoting zango along with their horrible reputation; how are you going to be able to convert to make a profit? I mean you still can but why strain and waste your energy, money, and most importantly TIME when you could easily avoid that??

Here’s MY personal way on choosing the right program or affiliate to promote.

Before I promote a merchant, I visit their website a use it as if I was their customer. If I’m seriously evaluating a merchant for the long term then I’ll buy something from them so I can evaluate their shopping cart and checkout processes. I make SURE there isn’t any leakage going on (excess display of their phone numbers will cause leakage and would go against awarding your commission).

Other bits I keep in mind:

Are they a reputable company?
If they’re not reputable like zango, how will that affect conversion? If you know your conversion rates are going to be low then why bother to promote a crappy merchant? Promote reputable companies and that’s where you will be rewarded with doing the right thing!

Do they have good pricing?
This isn’t the most important although it is up there! Say you google IBM thinkpad and find Site A which sells for $900 and Site B which sells for $600. Which will be the obvious choice? AT LEAST choose a merchant with competitive pricing!

Do they have a good selection?
This is also important. This will greatly increase your chances of a prospect turning into a solid customer! If the prospect clicks through your ad and finds his or her product and buys it then chances are that prospect may want to buy other stuff too! A good selection is key for returning customers.

How do they handle returns?
This has a direct relation with reputation. You want to promote a company with a working return system where they won’t jack and screw the customer out of their money obviously.

Is their website easy to use AND secure?
I know for a fact if I find a site and I’m ready to checkout and if they don’t have a secure socket layer (SSL) encryption then I am NOT going to buy from them. Make sure they have all of their security channels setup as it is essential for the customers’ sake!

What makes them stand out from their competitors?
What makes them special? Why are you promoting them? Do they have a unique selling proposition? Do they have a buzz going around in the market? What is it that makes them stand out? It’s important for you (the lead generator) to know why they stand out so that can help pitch these prospects into becoming customers!

And that concludes part 2. STAY TUNED for a Part 3 in the next couple of days!
